Tracking Systems For Children

Improving Child Safety With GPS Tracking Devices

GPS tracking systems are now playing a much larger role in the personal safety category, offering a way to conduct elderly tracking, teen driving monitoring and GPS tracking children. Although many people are now some what educated on the benefits that monitoring young teenage drivers and elderly drivers can provide, the application of tracking children is still a relatively new concept. This is because GPS monitoring systems in the past were large, bulky devices that often required the operator of the system to hard-wire the device to a vehicle, but now many live tracking systems such as the SilverCloud are designed for portability and with a compact housing. Although many parents buy into the marketing that cell phone tracking for kids is the way to go to monitor a child, the best way to view the movements of a child to ensure personal safety is through the use of a portable live tracking unit.

Cell Phone GPS Tracking

On September 11th, 2001, the entire world changed and many personal freedoms had to be sacrificed in the name of security. The Patriot Act gave the government powers to spy on civilians, airport security required travelers to remove shoes and sometimes more evasive search methods and all cell phones were required to be engineered with GPS chips that could locate any individual within 100 meters. With the new cell phone tracking GPS chips inserted into every cellular phone manufactured, many parents began to view the new technology as an opportunity to enhance child safety. This is because many intelligent parents believed real time GPS tracking via cellular phones would allow them and local police to always know where a child was at in case an emergency ever happened. However, the one problem that parents soon encountered was the shortcomings involved with cell phone tracking.

GPS Tracking: Cellular Phone Shortcomings

If there is one thing every parent should understand it is that CELL PHONES ARE NOT MEANT TO BE GPS TRACKING DEVICES! Cell phones are designed to place and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages and offer some Internet browsing capabilities, but they are in no way shape or form designed to replace or supplement sophisticated real-time monitoring systems such as the SilverCloud tracker. The reason is because the GPS chips inserted in every cellular phone have many shortcomings. Here is a short list of cell phone GPS chip shortcomings:

  1. When the cell phone is turned off the GPS chip can no longer transmit location
  2. When the cell phone battery dies the GPS chip can no longer transmit position
  3. Cellular towers triangulate position, not GPS satellites
  4. If the cell phone is not in a no coverage zone the GPS chip can not transmit position
  5. Accuracy is often times nowhere near 100 meters
  6. Historical data and daily activity reports are not offered through GPS cell phone tracking

GPS Trackers: Built For Locating Kids

Kids now use cell phones about as much as adults do, making them appear to be the best surveillance solution for parents to monitor their children. However, the only monitoring devices that should be used to protect life’s most precious assets, our children, are tracking systems designed for monitoring and built for exceptional accuracy (2.5 meters). The cool part is that many of the portable tracking systems available on the market that are designed for child monitoring are often the same size or smaller than cellular phones, making them easy and convenient for any child to carry.

Any parent looking to invest in a GPS tracking app for a cell phone to monitor child safety should think twice before doing so because there are much more efficient and reliable solutions on the market. Parents shouldn’t cut corners when it comes to their child’s safety, and investing in cell phone tracking software or applications could be a corner that has serious consequences.
