What is Bluetooth?
The best way to answer what Bluetooth is would be to first describe what the technology does. Bluetooth essentially takes the place of the cables that connect equipment. For example, instead of having a cable connecting a mouse to a personal computer tower, a radio chip is used. The tiny radio chip is plugged into the mouse and/or personal computer tower and allows the device to work cable-free. The information in the mouse is transmitted from the radio chip by a distinctive frequency and received by the computer tower. Bluetooth fundamentally replaces cable-based technologies.

Currently, there are two forms of GPS tracking devices on the market:
- Real-Time or Active
Real-time GPS tracking systems transmit data over cellular networks, making the data easily accessible by most computers or even some smartphones. Therefore, any person using a real-time GPS tracker does not have to manually download data in order to retrieve it.
Passive GPS tracking technology, on the other hand, typically requires the user to either plug the GPS tracker into a computer via USB port or download a cable in order to access recorded data. Passive GPS data loggers are not designed with cellular data modules, therefore, they cannot be accessed in real-time. Many consumers prefer passive tracking device technology over real-time tracking technology because it does not require a monthly service obligation.
Bluetooth technology takes the cumbersome chore out of downloading passive tracking system data. With Bluetooth technology, the user no longer has to remove the GPS tracking device from the vehicle and plug it into a computer’s USB port. Instead, the GPS tracker data can be quickly transferred with the assistance of radio chips. Bluetooth inherently makes accessing passive GPS tracking data simple and convenient.
